What's a Gaming Session Without Food?

Posted in: Fluff,Life,Meta-gaming by Ariel on March 11, 2009

treatsWe’ve been playing together for about a year and a half and in that time, we’ve developed some traditions. Some one dies, we eat chocolate. Sometimes there’s lots of chocolate.

It’s not all about sweets, though. Angel sells these great jalapeno Cheetos. Best. Cheetos. Ever.

We try to do birthday treats whenever we remember. Angel’s birthday is tomorrow. I have banana bread in the oven now.

In the oven

It’s maybe not too appetizing now, but wait until it’s fully baked! Rice Krispie treats are another favorite, but I only have half a bag of marshmallows, so no-go, at least for tonight.

Animal crackersNonsticky foods like animal cookies are best, however, so we don’t leave fingerprints on the DMG.

Sometimes we just have to use extra napkins because messy is where it’s at. Karla made this amazing castle cake once.

Castle cakeI wish it was a better picture — this creation deserves a better photographer. Chocolate drawbridge, gummy fishes, gummy guards (I think this was our Kua Toa phase), chocolate cake castle with…… wait for it ….. caramel treasure inside. My god, it was good cake.

You’ve waited patiently — here’s the banana bread:

  1. That cake is WIN. I wish my friend’s DND games had munches like that. *shakes fist like an old man*.

  2. For years we’ve stuck with Coke and Lays chips. It’s a great combo. Of course the occasional beer never hurt anybody.

One time a player suggested we eat healthier snacks, like vegetables. His character was killed that very night. That’s karma for ya.

  3. Angel’s b-day tomorrow? You guys have to stop having birthdays! My fingers can’t take all of the crochet blisters. :p

  4. The dice god, Megahedron, may be a fickle soul but he definitely dosn’t tolerate healthy gaming foods. That’s blasphemous!

  5. It should be noted that in the 4E rules for D&D, there are two references to snacks in the introduction. They list it in the “items needed to play the game.” I’m waiting for WotC to start marketing themed snacks. Monster Cookies (like animal cookies, except shaped like dragons, and goblins, and rakshasas, and a swarm of spiders, and zombies) would be a big hit.
