Brigid On the Road to Perdition

Posted in: Play,Serenity by Dyskko on February 28, 2010

S

ixty-two hours in a close, sweaty cargo ship gives you lots of time to think. Time to follow all the pathways that got you on the trek you’re currently on. Enumerate the right choices that led to good things, the wrong choices that led to bad things, and, well, the right choices that led to bad things. Let’s hope this turns out to be a right choice that leads to bad things that make us stronger.

The von Schindlers were one of the pioneering families to the planet of Hera, and settled in a place that came to be known as Oak Valley. For generations, my family has lived in a large home built by my great-great-grandfather Frederick von Schindler. Also on the property are three cottages built for the worker families that came with Frederick. The planet Hera, a border planet on the great shipping lane, was a perfect place casino online for the von Schindler family to grow their business. The von Schindlers have always been known for their preserved fruits and nuts, but it was my great uncle Günther who made the family fortune. He developed a way to dry, preserve, and can fruits and nuts so they come out of the package with all their flavors.

Enter the Blue Sun Corporation. Seeing the profit in “As Close to Fresh as Packaged Gets,” my father, Frederick the Fifth, and his sister my Aunt Brita decided to sell. Von Schindler Fruits and Nuts became a subsidiary of Blue Sun Corporation. And we lived in comfort.

Too much comfort for me it turned out. The war in Serenity Valley, almost completely across the world from Oak Valley, made a lot of things clear for me.

1) The Alliance may do well for people close to the Core, but outside that inner circle, it’s more nuisance than help.

2) The “worker families” living on our property were slaves.

3) My life’s purpose is to help those in need by spreading the fortune I’ve been lucky enough to have.

I entered the family business at age 19 in an entry-level position in Public Outreach. Now, 12 years later, I’m collecting over-production from the Blue Sun Corporation and traveling ‘round the Verse delivering goods to those that need it.

My family connections have helped me lots, and that’s how I know Jacob Walton, President of the Mining Guild on Hera. When he sent me the wave about his friend’s daughter, I knew I needed to help. Prudence sounded like a girl after my own heart, young union maid and all that. Of course we’d help.

So that’s the right choice that leads to us bein’ shackled on a cargo ship headed to Perdition. Me, Imago my personal physician, Swei the mechanic, Maggie the pilot, and Roark the muscle. Oh, and Prudence, the woman that I”m hopin” to help out.
